Thought of the Week: December 29, 2012

Every once in a while, get off the merry-go-round and ask yourself these questions:

·                  What are we doing?

·                  What should we be doing?

·                  What should we be doing next?

·                  What should we not be doing?

Thought of the Day: Merry CHRISTmas

For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

…the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord…a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: “Glory to God in the highest,
And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”

Thought of the Week: December 22, 2012

“On Christmas, we celebrate the birth of Christ with prayer, feasting, and great merriment. But, most of all, we experience it in our hearts. For, more than just a day, Christmas is a state of mind. It is found throughout the year whenever faith overcomes doubt, hope conquers despair, and love triumphs over hate. It is present when men of any creed bring love and understanding to the hearts of their fellow man. The feeling is seen in the wondrous faces of children and in the hopeful eyes of the aged. It overflows the hearts of cheerful givers and the souls.”          ~ Ronald Reagan (Christmas Message 1981)

“And the Grinch, with his Grinch-feet ice cold in the snow, stood puzzling and puzzling, how could it be so? It came without ribbons. It came without tags. It came without packages, boxes or bags. And he puzzled and puzzled 'till his puzzler was sore. Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before. What if Christmas, he thought, doesn't come from a store. What if Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more.”

Dining with David: Mickey’s Pizza

Mickey’s Pizza – Mississauga, ON – October 17, 2012
www.feedyourdragon.com
For a place billed as ‘the best pizza pie you’ve ever had PERIOD’, they are not too far off.  This is a place that you will not just stumble upon.  It is located in a little strip mall in a little lower section of town; message parlor and beauty salon next door.  But once inside, this ‘dive’ will keep you there.
I had pre-ordered one of their specials, the Killer King Smokey Dragon.  This little beast is a deep dish pie with pepperoni, strip bacon and crumble bacon (Canadian bacon or ham as we would call it) smoked Mozzarella and topped with a deep smoked BBQ sauce.
Let’s first start with the crust; it is a thick, buttery, flour based crust as compared to the typical Chicago style corn-meal based.  It is not the best crust I have ever had but a very good taste.  The pie is then stuffed with all these smoked ingredients that really come alive.  The topping of a deep smoked BBQ sauce is perfect for this pie.  Since it is applied and then cooked in a table-size open air rotating metal pizza cooker, the sauce gains a crusty texture and is wonderful.
Is it the best pizza I have ever had, no; but it is one of the most unusual and perfectly matched ingredients pies I have had.  Highly recommend to try all of their Signature Pizzas if you are in the area.

Dining with David: Zoup! Fresh Soup Company

Zoup! – Independence, OH – October 15, 2012
www.zoup.com
I get to my hotel in the wonderful, sunny, tropical area known as Cleveland; NOT!  Since it dropped over 20 degrees since yesterday with winds up to 35 MPH and a nice cold rain with low (I mean low) cloud cover, what else would you want to eat but some soup?
I found this place right down the street from the hotel and it seemed just right.  It is similar to a Panera Bread (one right across the street) but focus is on the soup rather than the bread (my bride would say YES to that).  I ordered the small combo which gave me a cup of soup and a half sandwich.
The soups are all out in view (reminded me of an old Baskin Robbins, just healthy) and you get to try anyone you would like.  I tried several but decided on the Manhattan Clam Chowder.  This was a tomato and clam broth with clams, potatoes, onions, celery and garlic.  A very good taste with strips of clams and big chunks of potatoes.  A good choice.  I then got a sandwich (used for dipping of course).  This was their 4 Cheese Melt with Pepper Jack, smoked Gouda, Muenster and mild Cheddar toasted on a multigrain roll.  For the wonderful Cleveland weather, this place is perfect.

Daddy’s Dynamic Dozen x 2:
1.  Let it be known...I love you more than you’ll ever know.
2.  If on occasion I push or prod you, it’s because I think you’re each capable of achieving so much.
3.  When I ask you questions, it’s really because I care about you, your life, your goals and your friends.  Sorry if you think it’s “annoying.”
4.  Read.  A lot.  Your life will be influenced significantly by the books you read.
5.  Make new friends.  Your life will be influenced significantly by the people you meet.
6.  Ask yourself, “What would I do, if I knew it was impossible to fail?”
7.  Know the value of observing and listening.  You were given two eyes, and two ears, and only one mouth for a reason.
8.  Work hard, at school and at your job.  Remember, people are watching you.  And, making decisions about you.  Is that fair?  Don’t matter.  That’s how the game is played.
9.  Save your money.  Invest in yourself.
10.  Be kind, to yourself and others.
11.  Truth is your friend.
12.  Help your Mother.
13.  Take action.  If you want it…go for it.  If you’d like it, ask for it.
14.  Realize “rejection” and “no” are part of life.  Get over it.  Move on.
15.  I will always love YOU.  Although at times, I might not like your choices or behaviors.  But I know you’ll learn from your mistakes.  And choices.  That’s how you grow.  Mature.  And become even better and stronger than you are now.
16.  You each are remarkable in your own way.  Be nice to each other.  Avoid name-calling.  Never scare each other.  Accept that on occasion, family gets angry at family, but find a way to work it out.
17.  Never give another person, permission to influence your mood, attitude or outlook on life…those are your choices.  Your responsibility.
18.  Clean up after yourself.  Put your clothes away.  Make your bed.  Don’t leave dirty dishes in the sink.  (It gets your Mom angry!)
19.  Think BIG.  Dream BIG.  Place no limits on your life.
20.  Find what makes YOU unique, special.  Be passionate.  Enjoy the adventure.
21.  Hug those who are important to you.  Tell them, “I love you!”
22.  Don’t gossip.  Spread rumors.  Or say negative things about other people.  It often backfires and returns to bite you on the tush.
23.  Don’t bake in the sun!  But do take great care of your body.  Exercise.  Eat well!  (Remember, “gum” is not a food group!)  Laugh.  Laugh some more!
24.  If any of the preceding is confusing, or causes you to wonder, “Why is my Dad so weird?”...simply go back, repeatedly, and re-read #1!

Dinning with David: The Original Pancake House

The Original Pancake House – Winnipeg, MB – June 14, 2012
www.originalpancakehouse.ca
On the way to the airport, I stopped off for a late breakfast/early lunch.  I had seen this place at The Forks when I was there last night and thought about eating there but decided to give it a try for mid-morning.  The outside tables were closed due to chance of rain and I sat inside looking out over the waters.
I decided to order their famous Giant Apple Pancake.  Instead of the regular super-duper size, I ordered their ‘baby’ version; just the size of a regular plate.  This thing was huge (even for a baby) with a tart like crust and covered in seasoned/baked apple slices and their special imported Saigon Cinnamon glaze.  Now, once again I am a sauce guy but this thing did not need any syrup.  The taste and texture was fabulous without syrup; the fresh whipped butter might have helped too.
Very unusual to describe but really a giant tart with a buttery crisp crust and sides, lite batter in the middle providing just enough to support the large apple slices and cinnamon.  I topped it off with a side of smoked bacon and I was in hog heaven (no pun intended).  I can only hope their other massive selections of pancakes, waffles and crepes can meet up with this monster.  A must try at The Forks in Winnipeg.

Travels with David: The Forks

The Forks – Winnipeg, MB – June 13, 2012
www.theforks.com
After leaving the Mint, I decided to head over to a local hotspot for a little dinner.  Turns out, this place is only 3 blocks from my hotel.  They have done a good job in creating a park and shopping area right at the corner/junction of the Assiniboine and Red Rivers.  This place has an open amphitheater along with several converted warehouse/manufacturing buildings into open shopping areas.  Shops range from fresh seafood, meat and cheese to specialty stores and some typical souvenir shops.
The Forks is designed in an artistic way with many paintings, sculptures, and stage areas for performances.  In fact, the short time I was there, noticed three different areas of live play acting and solo singing.  To say it verges on eclectic, would be accurate.  Only several blocks away is the under-construction new Human Rights Museum; seen in top-right photo.
It was nice to just walk around and stretch after a good dinner (Muddy Waters).  Now, in honor of my youngest (Meredith), I just had to go by and get one of her favorites.  I had noticed a little booth with that unique metal deep frying machine just for mini-donuts.  Yes, I said mini-donuts.  I got him to fry up some fresh puppies just for me and then he spins them in brown sugar (unusual but no powdered sugar here).  These were just perfect for dessert and I got to eat them sitting right on the river watching the nice, calm waters.

Dining with David: Muddy Waters Ribs & Wings

Muddy Waters Ribs & Wings - Winnipeg, MB - June 13, 2012
http://www.wowhospitality.ca/restaurants/muddywaters.html
Located at The Forks, there are several restaurants.  I decided to try something different and went to a BBQ place; yes, I went to a BBQ place in Winnipeg.  Since it doesn’t even think about getting dark till after 2100, I sat outside (under umbrella) for a nice view of the activities around.  Keep in mind that the name just might refer to the nasty, muddy water in the two rivers joined at The Forks.
I jumped on out there and ordered a special, almost hidden item on the menu.  This is their Real Deal meal.  It is comprised of their long ribs (6) that are deep smoked and then before most people pull out and put on grill with sauce, they pull these puppies and deep fry (yes, fried ribs) for under a minute.  They then treat with just sea-salt and pepper with sauce on the side.
Wow, these were one tasty ribs.  I am a sauce guy and I loved their sauce.  But, I really liked just the dry ribs.  The unique taste of the deep smoke flavor (with smoke rings) along with the basic salt/pepper just stood out.  In fact, better than most ribs I have had; better than Rendezvous Ribs in Memphis, TN.
As much as I loved the ribs, I also loved their homemade fries.  These were thick-cut with crunchy on outside with plenty of skin and soft on the inside.  I dipped them in their special BBQ sauce and what a combination.  The sauce is your typical ketchup based (Memphis style) with a little kick.  In fact, the sauce reminded me of Calhoun’s out of Knoxville, TN.
No doubt, this is another place to recommend in Winnipeg.  If I keep finding these, I might start to enjoy Winnipeg (???).

Travels with David: Royal Canadian Mint

Royal Canadian Mint – Winnipeg, MB – June 13, 2012
www.mint.ca
After my two business meetings today, I had ~2 hours to kill; what better way than see how Canada makes their coins.  I drove 10 minutes from hotel and bam, there is this very unusual building.  The Winnipeg mint was built back in 1976 with over 160k sq ft in a glass, almost pyramid style building.  As you drive up, a majestic parade of flags of all the countries that work with the Mint surround your vehicle; I almost stopped and saluted ole Glory, the US Flag.
I made it in time for their tour and was pleased to see lots of behind the scenes view of coin minting for several countries (not just Canada).  Strange, but all circulation coinage for Canada is produced here in Winnipeg; 20 million a day.  Glad to hear Canada is finally killing minting their penny coin; stopped April of this year.  Now, if they could just do something with all their other coins; heavy focus/use of coinage up here.  Interesting visit.

Dining with David: Santa Lucia Pizza

Santa Lucia Pizza – Winnipeg, MB – June 12, 2012
www.santaluciapizza.com
Meeting in Winnipeg and the vendor suggested we go get some lunch; who am I to turn that down.  They decided to go to a local chain that has been rated the number one pizza for years, Santa Lucia.  This place is right outside of downtown and near the famous Forks.
Santa Lucia started back in ’71 in MB and has even moved down into ND.  They seem to specialize in Italian food with a strong Greek touch.  The menu is broad and can really make you hungry.  Since they have won awards for pizza, I just had to go there.
I ordered their lunch, 9”, Meat Lovers pizza.  This decadent thing is covered with fresh pepperoni, big chunks of bacon, large slices of salami, and hunks of beef slathered with fresh cheese.  Now if the toppings are not enough, the sauce is fresh and has that wonderful, unusual taste that you know this is not your run-of-the-meal pizza.  The sauce really emphasizes their Greek touch and it is worth it.  The crust is a hand-tossed style, not too thick and not thin; a great combination.  I would have to say, this is one of the better pizza’s I have had; almost left that great taste like the old Carnaggio’s (look it up) used to have.
I was shocked and amazed but thrilled to get such a good lunch (enough to cover dinner too) here in Winnipeg.  A strong recommendation to try this place if ever just up north of the States in MB.

Dining with David: Buchanans (Breakfast)

Buchanans - Niagara Falls, ON - May 4, 2012
http://doubletree1.hilton.com/en_US/dt/hotel/IAGDTDT-DoubleTree-Fallsview-Resort-Spa-by-Hilton-Niagara-Falls-Ontario/index.do
I got up early this morning and did a little work-out and some work before I had to head out to my appointment. I needed to eat breakfast and since I had a free coupon, why not try the wonderful restaurant right in the hotel.
I got down there and was upset not to see a breakfast buffet; but it would get better. I ordered from the menu and waited on my meal. Was I surprised! I had ordered French toast; but this was no normal French toast and certainly not like anything I had the prior two mornings at Hilton Garden Inns (evern though those were good). This was a cranberry loaded focaccia bread dipped and grilled to perfection. It was then covered with tart green apple slices and some hot maple syrup. The taste of the focaccia bread, offset with the grilled egg batter and the cranberries was fantastic. I had a little side of bacon and orange juice and what a meal. For the second straight meal, this place did not only not disappoint, but it exceeded expectations.
What a breakfast!

Buchanans - Niagara Falls, ON - May 3, 2012
http://doubletree1.hilton.com/en_US/dt/hotel/IAGDTDT-DoubleTree-Fallsview-Resort-Spa-by-Hilton-Niagara-Falls-Ontario/index.do
Located in DoubleTree Fallsview Resort & Spa by Hilton.  When I get in to a nice hotel, I am still weary of eating at the restaurant.  Normally I can find better food right down the street.  I got into my hotel, a very nice one at that, and was ready for a little food.  I decided to try the restaurant as nothing but high-priced chain and junk food restaurants around me.  What a pleasant surprise.
I started out with their appetizer special of panko-crusted chicken strips.  These were thin, battered chicken strips with a nice panko crust.  Got a little raspberry chutney to dip in (and I love to dip) and wow, these were excellent.  For only $5, I thought about just ordering another one and stop at that; Nah.
To stay on the healthy side (yes, I did say healthy), I ordered their Grilled Beef Tenderloin Salad.  This was a nice salad with mix greens, carrot slices, blue cheese, grilled tomatoes,  mix peppers, onion straws and nice big tenderloins of beef.  Topped it off with a raspberry vinaigrette and this was a very good meal.  The greens and carrots mixed with the offset of cheese and raspberry gave that special taste that normal salad just does not have.
Since I had been so good, and I was way under budget, I got their dessert special.  This was a flourless chocolate cake (more like a gooey undercooked brownie) topped with a heavy cream sauce along with blueberries and strawberries.  This was one of the better desserts I have had.  I love moist and runny chocolate and this just made the ticket.  The blueberries really set off the chocolate and the heavy cream was so rich; wow!
If you are ever right across the northern border, I would definitely recommend this place.  A great hotel, great view and great restarurant.

Dining with David: Suzy-Q’s Bar-B-Que Shack

Suzy-Q’s Bar-B-Que Shack – Buffalo, NY – April 11, 2012
http://www.suzy-que.blogspot.com/
Since I drove down from Toronto late in the afternoon (no SWA flight option), I had one more night to spend in Buffalo.  I have already had their famous ‘Wick’ (see prior posting) and wanted to try something different.  I researched and asked and kept getting pointed to a local ‘southern bbq’ joint.  Being born/raised in BBQ central (AL), I just had to try this one.
It is located right on the river, right across from the Canadian border.  It is truly a shack with very few parking and seating spaces (I got mine to go).  I was greeted by Suzy and asked what she would recommend.  She went to their namesake, the Piggy Pie.  Decision made.
I got this wonderful concoction; mixture of cheese fries and a BBQ plate.  This is a large mountain, ~5” high,  with a base of French fries.  It is then topped with pulled pork, baked beans, homemade ‘Smokin’ salsa and melted cheese.   Suzy is known for her smoked meat and the pork had great rings; wonderful taste.  The melted cheese with beans and salsa (and I got BBQ sauce for dipping) was a very unusual taste and well worth it.
A very unique place in a great location; truly a dive.  I would love to try their other specials at some point.  If ever in Buffalo, this is a must stop.

Travels with David: Original American Kazoo Company

Original American Kazoo Company – Eden, NY – April 11, 2012
www.edenkazoo.com
Since I was close by (15 mins) and had a few minutes before dinner, I drove on down to an historic landmark.  This is the original metal kazoo factory and only remaining of its kind; since 1916.  Located in a quaint little town, typical NE row houses of all kinds, in an old metal fabrication building, this place has been restored into a fully functional factory, museum and store.
It is amazing to see all of the steps and process with different machines just to produce a simple musical device.  Now, these are not your normal plastic types, these are true metal grade with different options in presentation from the normal submarine style to tractors, trains, planes, cars, etc.  Not necessarily a place you would spend hours but for 15 mins, a great little stop right on Lake Erie.  Just a great piece of Americana.

Dining with David: St. Lawrence Market / Carousel Bakery

St. Lawrence Market / Carousel Bakery – Toronto, ON – April 10, 2012
www.stlawrencemarket.com
As I was driving into Toronto, I had time to grab a little lunch.  I had asked ‘where’ is the best local place to eat.  No doubt, told to go to the Lawrence Market and try their famous sandwich.  The St. Lawrence Market is a converted old building with two floors of open markets and local restaurants; very unusual in these days.  It is just several blocks from the lake and right down from the famous CN Tower; the largest tower in the world.
In one of their local candy stores, I picked up a couple dark chocolate covered ginger balls.  This is a gelled ginger root (strong but not overpowering) dunked in a dark, rich chocolate.  Never seen or had this before and it is not bad.  I just had to try for the weird factor.
After walking around, I finally stopped at the famous Carousel Bakery.  This is an open bakery made famous by the likes of Emeril Lagasse and Bobby Flay. They serve a sandwich they call the World Famous Peameal Bacon Sandwich.
This Peameal Bacon Sandwich is served on a fresh, homemade bun.  It contains Peameal Bacon; a pork loin similar to Canadian Bacon but thicker and coated in ground yellow peas (yes, that is tough for me to even type).  I put a little spicy mustard and horse radish (as recommended by the clerk) to top it off.  This was a very different sandwich; I would not say the best ever but very unique.  It had a great taste with the pork and slightly charred from cooking on the grill.  A definite must try whenever in Toronto.

Dining with David: 529 Wellington

529 Wellington – Winnipeg, MB – March 14, 2012
www.wowhospitality.ca/restaurants/wellington.html
Well, my trip to Winnipeg has been anything but exciting; many travel issues and long hours.  Our prospect suggested a nice restaurant for the night and of course, we agreed.  After driving toward downtown and coming into a very nice area, we then come upon a castle sitting right on the river.  We could not believe this was the restaurant.  This massive ‘house’ was built back in 1912 and has been elegantly restored; many rooms converted to private dining rooms with a grand staircase; lots of unique hardwood.
They started us off with a little smoked Atlantic Salmon from Nova Scotia; just right with nice smoke lines and great taste.  Being from the South, we had to try their special Onion rings with local sauce; very clear, clean peanut oil makes all the difference with the right batter.  They then brought us a sample of a new item, Spinach Mouse with bacon chips; flat, thin bacon chip in a small cup of the lightest, fluffiest vegetable mouse I have ever had (what am I talking about, I have never had any vegetable mouse before).   To finish off the starters, they then brought out their local special of smoked Gold Eye; light, oily, very fresh fish with heavy smoke and a great taste.
I started off the meal with one of my favorite salads, Caprese.  Nothing but fresh tomato covered with a big chunk of fresh mozzarella, sprinkled with basil and drizzled with balsamic vinegar; excellent.  Now, since this is one of the very few places that serves Canadian Prime beef (<1% of all Canadian beef), I knew I had to get their steak.  They feed their cows wheat and barley instead of corn like in the States (causing a whiter fat trim rather than a little darker yellow).  This was a nice little 8 oz. filet tenderloin with a side of lobster tail.  The steak was fabulous (probably the second best steak I have ever had) and was topped with a slight sprinkle of sea salt (great offset).  I thoroughly enjoyed this steak as the flavor and smoke was wonderful.  The fresh lobster (from Prince Edward Island in the Atlantic) had that great lobster taste and the special heated butter really helped.
This was one wonderful meal in a great facility.  We thought about their special dessert but just could not pull the trigger and send it over the top.  If ever in Winnipeg, this is the place to go.

Dining with David: Joey Kenaston

Joey Kenaston – Winnipeg, MB – March 13, 2012
www.joeyrestaurants.com
After a long day (travel and presentation), the group decided to just drive and find a restaurant (not really my preference but sometimes it can work).  We can upon a nice looking building with a crowd; always a good sign.  This is one of the many 'Joey' style restaurants.  This is a mid-scale restaurant with a very modern look and feel.  We started off with the lettuce wraps; very good but not real spicy.  Neat thing was their expanding towelette that grow/expand in water bowl provided to clean your hands.
I then had one of their specials; salmon.  This was nice little cut of fish in olive oil with seasonings over the top.  Instead of those nasty vegetables, I opted for a bowl of pasta with red sauce; the noodles were the egg based style; just ok.  This is not the best salmon I have had but very good and worth it.  The frites (fries) were crispy outside and soft on inside; perfect match.  Overall a very good meal at a very nice place.

Dining with David: Charlie the Butcher

Charlie the Butcher – Buffalo, NY – March 2, 2012
Now, when most people hear Buffalo, they think (food related) of the famous Buffalo Wings.  But the locals think Weck.  This is a famous local sandwich with a funky name.  I knew I just had to try one for lunch before catching my flight.  I figured if I was going to try, go where the locals go.
This place is located behind the airport on a corner.  Small building with side doors for entrance/exit; enter on one side and back out the other.  There is about 8 bar stools at the counter and maybe another 12 tables in there; that’s it.  I ordered their famous Beef on Weck (junior version).  This is slow roasted beef sliced right in front of you as you order on a unusual ‘kummelweck’ roll (fresh baked roll covered with salt and slight seasoning) and dipped in beef sauce with some good ole horseradish for kick.  The beef was wonderful but the bread just made the sandwich.  Slightly dipped in broth and then when you bit in, you get the beef offset by the salt on top of the bun.   Not something you see every day and worth the extra 5 min drive from Buffalo airport.  If every in town, go get you a Weck.

Travels with David: Niagara Falls

Niagara Falls – Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada – March 2, 2012
What an experience.  Had the chance driving back from Cambridge, ON to Buffalo, NY to stop by the great Niagara Falls (Canadian side).  Now, I must say, I don’t see why you would go there on vacation but a brief stop-by is fantastic.  The Horseshoe Falls has over 600,00 gallons of water/second; that’s impressive.  This thing is over 170 ft. tall and 2600 ft. wide.  The American Falls is much shorter and not near as wide; boulders at bottom of falls; still wonderful.  Amazing how much water is flowing in the Niagara River from Lake Ontario to Lake Erie.  It was a good thing I had my jacket as that water blowing in the air was COLD; no way not to get wet.   If you ever have the chance, a must view of God’s impressive work.

Dining with David: City Cafe Bakery

City Caf̩ Bakery РKitchener, Ontario РMarch 1, 2012
I was looking for something unusual for my last night in Canada.  I had seen this unique place down by the river, converted old gas station, and thought it might be good to try.  I was surprised to find that pizza is a specialty for them.  City Café is one of those pay-as-you-wish business.  Everything is priced to the nearest quarter to make it easy.  There is no cashier, just an old transit fare (metal/glass) box for customers to pay what they want (honour system); quite interesting.
When you walk in the door, nothing but a few tables, glass case for desserts, and plenty of bread baskets filled with home-made bread, etc.  The limited menu is on black-boards hanging from the ceiling.  Most everything is cooked in the huge stone pizza oven located right behind the baskets.
I ordered the regular pepperoni pizza.  The crust was kneaded and formed right in front of me and covered in fresh pepperoni with cheese and home-made sauce.  It was then slide into the massive oven where the fire was popping the fresh crust.    Once I was able to taste it, it was wonderful.  The fresh ingredients make a big difference but nothing like that stone pizza oven.  Very thin crust with slightly burned ends (just crunchy, not burnt).  The pepperoni was thick and fresh and the cheese was a nice offset to the sauce.  I can only imagine the taste of their bread loafs, bagels and donuts.

Dining with David: Little Louie's Burger Joint

Little Louie’s Burger Joint & Soupery – Cambridge, ON – February 29, 2012
www.lilyruth.com
Canada - Local Cambridge chief Steven Allen has done well from his catering business to this quirky burger joint.  Tucked in a residential area in an old burger/shake joint, he has a nice little elegant burger business going.  Unique experience where you fill out a limited checklist of your order.  The meat is actually ground right down the street by a local butcher.
I ordered a 5oz burger on their special egg bun topped with grilled pineapple, smoked bacon, gouda cheese and fried onions covered in hickory BBQ sauce.  This is one unique burger with great taste and very juicy.  It was surrounded by their little frites (or fries) that had a great taste.  I washed it down with a fountain Stewart’s Black Cherry pop (yes, I am trying to use the local verbiage).
This was one of the better burgers (not the best) I have had and definitely the better meal I have had here in Cambridge (1 hr west of Toronto).

Love by Roy Croft
I love you not only for what you are,
but for what I am when I am with you.
I love you not only for what you have made
of yourself, but for what you are making of me.
I love you for the part of me that you bring out
I love you for putting your hand
into my heaped up heart and for passing over
all of the foolish things you can't
help dimly seeing there,
and for drawing out into the light
all of the beautiful belongings
that no one else has looked quite
far enough to find.
I love you because you have
done more than any creed
could have done to make me good
and more than any fate could
have done to make me happy.
You have done it without a touch,
without a word, without a sign.
You have done it by being yourself...
