“And I am proud to be an American,
where at least I know I'm free.
And I won't forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.”

“Make your commitments to enduring values and institutions -- honesty, integrity, trust, confidence, family, and other matters of the heart.
Go ahead and challenge the status quo, but you must also decide what lasts -- what really counts -- what no one can take away from you. These are your values, and they will accompany you wherever you work and wherever you live.”     ~ Jack D. Rehm

“Your arms were always open when I needed a hug. Your heart understood when I needed a friend. Your gentle eyes were stern when I needed a lesson. Your strength and love has guided me and gave me wings to fly.”     ~ Sarah Malin

I got up early this morning and did a little work-out and some work before I had to head out to my appointment. I needed to eat breakfast and since I had a free coupon, why not try the wonderful restaurant right in the hotel.
I got down there and was upset not to see a breakfast buffet; but it would get better. I ordered from the menu and waited on my meal. Was I surprised! I had ordered French toast; but this was no normal French toast and certainly not like anything I had the prior two mornings at Hilton Garden Inns (evern though those were good). This was a cranberry loaded focaccia bread dipped and grilled to perfection. It was then covered with tart green apple slices and some hot maple syrup. The taste of the focaccia bread, offset with the grilled egg batter and the cranberries was fantastic. I had a little side of bacon and orange juice and what a meal. For the second straight meal, this place did not only not disappoint, but it exceeded expectations.
What a breakfast!

Dining with David: Buchanans

Located in DoubleTree Fallsview Resort & Spa by Hilton.  When I get in to a nice hotel, I am still weary of eating at the restaurant.  Normally I can find better food right down the street.  I got into my hotel, a very nice one at that, and was ready for a little food.  I decided to try the restaurant as nothing but high-priced chain and junk food restaurants around me.  What a pleasant surprise.
I started out with their appetizer special of panko-crusted chicken strips.  These were thin, battered chicken strips with a nice panko crust.  Got a little raspberry chutney to dip in (and I love to dip) and wow, these were excellent.  For only $5, I thought about just ordering another one and stop at that; Nah.
To stay on the healthy side (yes, I did say healthy), I ordered their Grilled Beef Tenderloin Salad.  This was a nice salad with mix greens, carrot slices, blue cheese, grilled tomatoes,  mix peppers, onion straws and nice big tenderloins of beef.  Topped it off with a raspberry vinaigrette and this was a very good meal.  The greens and carrots mixed with the offset of cheese and raspberry gave that special taste that normal salad just does not have.
Since I had been so good, and I was way under budget, I got their dessert special.  This was a flourless chocolate cake (more like a gooey undercooked brownie) topped with a heavy cream sauce along with blueberries and strawberries.  This was one of the better desserts I have had.  I love moist and runny chocolate and this just made the ticket.  The blueberries really set off the chocolate and the heavy cream was so rich; wow!
If you are ever right across the northern border, I would definitely recommend this place.  A great hotel, great view and great restarurant.
